Description
In Liguria, from Lerici in northwest Italy, on a boat trip around Poets Bay (named for the many poets who frequented there in bygone days) I was entranced by the stunningly stark pure white rocky coast of the Mediterranean Sea. The rocks and blue sea enhanced the ancient aquaduct built precariously on the mountain side. Liguria, formerly a much bigger territory, was conquered by the Romans during the first Punic War 264 B.C.E. - 234 B.C.E. The aquaduct was probably built by Augustus during his reign. My photo was not enough; I immediately attempted to capture this historical scene in watercolors on my balcony overlooking the sea where I painted in the cool of the mornings.
